Rogren[edit]

Rogren are known as excellent warriors and builders their cities can match up with some of our less noteworthy Dwarven Halls. Also, their crystals go for a fair price, that's if you can get any.
—Adrik Iornfist, traveling dwarf merchant

Physical Description[edit]

Rogren are golem-like rock creatures. All rogren have large amounts of large crystals on their backs and on their upper arms. They also have a range of many colors. Most males have darker, and less vibrant colored crystals. While rogren females have less number of crystals, they are actually more vibrant, with much brighter colored crystals than their male counterparts. Rogren males, due to the large amounts of crystals on their backs, all hunch over whenever they stand. Rogren females are much smaller than males and do not have the iconic hunched posture of the males.

History[edit]

The first rogren were created when a rock elemental used powerful magic to form several crystalline eggs. After several decades, the young rogren that hatched from them became the first males and females that formed the first rogren tribes. Since being created, many rogren have elemental abilities. With these abilities, they had created grand caverns in the earth where the first matriarchs had their tribes live. Many of said caverns were inside large mountain ranges, much like the dwarven holds. Due to their underground homes, the dwarves eventually found the rogren and a period of tense relations began. The leaders of the two factions had a meeting and started a decade-long alliance. Although many tribes have fallen during the years, some of the oldest tribes have a recorded history from the age of humans. Rogren records are grand pictures carved into the sides of a tribes home cavern. They show the history of the tribe and any events that unfold during the tribe's existence. So many scholars travel to rogren tribes to read the great amount of history that is within their walls.

In the most recent of times, many of the smaller rogren tribes have been forced out of their home caverns. They subsequently came together under the leadership of matriarch Grenda Shacarn in the Sunset Mountains. These tribes tried to defend themselves against a great orc invasion. The orcs had always had a greedy eye on the rogren crystals, but they were pushed back by rogren and Dwarven forces before. The rogren and dwarf partnership deteriorated because a dwarf warlord named Harakaz "Green-Beard" Ulriksnev had stolen several rogren eggs. This led to the deterioration of the rogren-dwarf partnership, as the warlord escaped and the eggs were found destroyed. The orcs took this opportunity to attack, destroying over a dozen tribe caverns. Many rogren have fled to aboveground cities to escape the orcs.

Society[edit]

Rogren society runs off a matriarch system, where a female who has a gifted ability to create crystalline eggs is the queen of rogren society. All matriarchs grow their own tribes after they find a male to mate with. Each tribe focuses mostly on itself, but some tribe matriarchs form pacts with each other, which makes each matriarch more influential. The more influence a matriarch has, the more fellow rogren who may come to her tribe. Rogren matriarchs are called "Stone Mother" by children and "Queen" by all other races and tribes.

Rogren Names[edit]

Rogren are born in large groups once every few years. Rogren are not named upon hatching. They are named when their first crystals form on them. Rogren names are two syllables long with the first letter of their name being the beginning letter of the color of their crystals, and their last names are the name of their tribe.
