The world is always changing, and the face of earth has most certainly changed during the events that led up to the Resource Wars.
[edit] The Information Age: 1960 - 2056
The information age marked unprecedented advances in international communication and information sharing. This brought about a fast evolution in technology which ranged from daily life to military applications as well as innovations such as computer microminiaturization and the implementation of the internet.
[edit] Significant Events
- January 2028: The Russian Federation detonates the world's first C2 warhead, a compact conventional explosive with the power equal to a nuclear bomb.
- March 2031: Germany and Austria withdraw from the European Union in a preemptive action to prevent economic collapse.
[edit] The Collapse of 2057 and the Second Great Depression: 2057 - 2062
After years of prolonged negotiating between countries and continued build-up of national debts, an economic crisis around the world causes a market collapse so devastating that it parallels the Great Depression of the 1900s. Unemployment and anti-government dissent hits an all-time high.

- February 2057: The United States and Canada unite to form the United Provinces of North America.
[edit] The Civil War and Revolutionary Period: 2062 - 2078
The Second Great Depression fractured most nations into armed conflict and revolution. As a result, the world changed drastically as new nations were dissolved, formed, and reformed. While some countries like the Russian Federation and the United States were able to reform, others which included a majority of the third-world nations split into smaller independent states.

- August 2065: The Russian government collapses and the Separatist Civil War begins.
- March 2068: Moscow is destroyed in the first military use of a C2 warhead by the Separatist faction. Thousands die in the ensuing explosion.
- October 2076: On the same day as the beginning of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, the Separatist Civil War comes to an end with Pro-Government Democratic forces victoriously re-establishing the government.
[edit] Temporary Stabilization and the Oil Shortage: 2079 - 2088
In 2079, the world saw peace. Nations were able to reestablish old trade routes and the economy slowly began to stabilize once again. No more than five years passed, however, before the international governments realized that a global oil shortage was imminent and a silent rush to secure as much available oil as possible began.

- May 2079: With no oil left to export, the Arab nations' society collapses and descends into complete anarchy.
- November 2081: Central Asia is declared as a demilitarized zone.
- December 2084: An attempted incursion by the New Russian Republic military into the Baltic Coalition is stopped by the Coalition's defense forces and their newly developed stealth tank.
[edit] The Resource Wars: 2089 - Present
With an oil crisis looming just over the horizon and no major alternative energy sources available, the major nations of the world enter into a quasi-cold war for necessary resources to support their countries.
