Ralis[edit]

Immortality is the goal of all life, creating a race based on that idea is just so, so, right.
—Silar

Physical Description[edit]

Ralis are humanoid creatures that are taller, thinner and paler, with a slight glow on their skin like moonlight. They are denoted by a large orb located somewhere on their body, which is the source of their life. The orb is often said to look like opal or a pearl. They have long fingers and toes, as well as elegant necks and are usually hairless. The race is not sexually dimorphic nor do they even have genitalia. Their eyes are very beautiful, depicting the starry darkness of a clear night sky with nebulas.

Death and Beginnings[edit]

Ralis were created by a coven of human warlocks following their high leader, Silar. This group was called 'The Seekers of Ouroboros' and they sought methods through which one becomes immortal. They were not satisfied with the cowardly yak folks method of the magic jar and wanted to turn a body wholly immortal without removing the soul. Thus, they created the ralis as a chassis of sorts. These were named in in honor of Silar, with his name reversed. A person submitting to the experiment had their entire body painfully deconstructed and rebuilt out of a material called moon dust. Then their soul was placed into a gem which would tether it forever and not allow it to leave. This 'soul gem' was then replanted into the ralis' body, completing their transformation.

Silar's coven supposedly all underwent the process. Many died. Silar's successor continued the projects until he was discovered and executed. Before he was caught, he hid the methods away in some secret place. People seek out the recipe to gain immortality, or even create an immortal army. The ralis that were already created were hunted and persecuted as crimes against nature. Some rumor spread that the orb of a ralis can grant one immortality, and so they are also hunted for that.

Societal Relations[edit]

Ralis know one another just by a look, but so would anyone else looking at those eyes of nebulas. Treating each other as family, ralis turn away from large cities and places of magic and gather in small groups, hiding from the world. Usually, they can be found in the most remote and concealed areas. They are not fond of visitors and do not like strangers or mortal creatures in general. Magic can scare them due to its capability of removing their orbs and killing them. This was done a lot more back when the ralis projects were discovered for the first time. However, now the ralis are just a distant, nearly forgotten memory that will outlive everyone if left alone.

Though they live closely together, ralis cannot reproduce with one another, as they must be made. However, it is believed most of the original ralis, who were of Silar's coven, have long been killed and so no ralis is exactly sure how to make more of themselves. Usually, they just devote their lives to one another forever.

Alignment[edit]

The ralis were originally born into a world in a time without war, but a world of research. Their views tended to stay neutral because of this. However, due to the change in society's attitude towards them, they may now be more prone to some evil doing towards non-ralis. For example, they may ignore a person in need of help, or be vehemently venomous towards outsiders that approach. Nonetheless, they remain benevolent towards each other.

Religions[edit]

The original ralis were sycophants for Silar and worshipped him as a prophet and even a god at some point. However, his successor had less power over the ralis he made and they did not worship him or Silar. As they walked forth in their new forms, they came to pick up other religions which caught their fancy and instead took aspects they liked and meshed them together. It is unclear exactly what deity they worship or if they do not have a central figure in belief. It is known, however, that they have ceremonial burials for their fellow fallen ralis.
