Puppeteer (5e Spell)

From D&D Wiki

Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Comparing this 5th-level spell to dominate monster, it seems like it should be around 8th level. Either spell allows you to take control over any creature within 60 feet with one failed save, but for several reasons this one is much better in a combat situation, especially against a single boss-like creature.

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

5th-level Enchantment
Casting time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet.
Components: V, S, M (A golden string worth 20 gold pieces)
Duration: 1 minute

You fire ethereal strings out of your fingertips to wrap around the limbs of the target creature and hold them aloft. This spell must be evaded with a Dexterity save. On a success, it takes over the actions, but not the mind, of the target creature. The creature is aware they are being controlled. If both of your hands are free, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to move and dictate the actions the target takes. The affected creatures walking speed is now a Flight (Hover) speed, and all attack rolls they make use your Spell Save instead. While the spell takes over the creature's actions, they can speak freely, and their mind is not controlled, and therefore you cannot force them to cast spells or spell-like abilities, or stop them from crying out for help. Skill-based rolls are too complex to perform, and are also impossible. Controlled creatures can still perform spells or spell-like abilities that only have at most a vocal component.

The target can make a Strength saving throw at the beginning of each of their turns to escape and may make a Strength saving throw on each time you force the creature to an action that they are opposed to resists the effect but not effect of the binding. The strings can also be severed by magical slashing damage instantly. The affected creature cannot travel more than 120 feet away from you without severing the strings.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th or higher, you may target an additional creature, for every level past 5th. When you use a bonus action to move a creature, you can move all of them.
