More information...

Your gaze is drawn to an ornate urn sitting on a pedestal in the center of the room. Coated in gold and tiny irridescent jewels, you find yourself unable to resist your greed and approach. As soon as you draw within arm's reach, however, the priceless work of art rapidly unfurls into a hissing, spitting insect the size of a large dog, which lunges at you with fangs dripping caustic liquid.

What madman, what fiend, what depraved soul would be so cruel as to create such a devious--and shameless--knockoff of the beast known as the common mimic? Alas, it is true, for long ago a wizard of dubious moral fiber decided that it might be interesting to cross-breed mimics with other aberrations, and then augment them with construct parts. Several centuries later, we have the result--a vile pest with explosive population growth and a taste for humanoid humours. These Pandorae, as the are called, were named after the first woman unfortunate enough to stumble upon one of their breeding grounds.

The average Pandora is a foot high and three long, and weighs about thirty pounds. Despite having ornate wings, Pandorae cannot fly.

Pandorae reproduce asexually, with each adult pandora being able to lay almost two dozen eggs in a single sitting. Combined with their incredibly rapid growth cycle, this makes them an extremely difficult pest to eradicate once they've settled in for the duration.

Combat[edit]

Pandorae are cunning, skittish predators who will hide in plain sight, disguising itself as a coffer in order to attract intelligent prey. Once an unwitting target has approached, the creature will rapidly unfurl, deliver a painful bite, and then skitter out of harm's way before the victim can react. It will make use of its agility and its Spring Attack to frustrate all attempts at counterattack, and will flee if it sees that the situation is hopeless.

Flawless Camouflage (Ex): Pandorae are clever ambush predators with highly-flexible bodies and total control over the texture and pigmentation of their skin, like an octopus. They can disguise themselves as any type of urn with a DC 10 Hide check, and can assume or drop this disguise as a free action; a DC 25 Spot check is required to notice that something about the urn does not appear quite right.

Drain (Su): Pandorae are sinister predators with the ability to steal life energy and knowledge from their targets with but a bite. Whenever a pandora succeeds on a Bite attack, it automatically recovers hit points equal to the amount of damage inflicted, with any excess becoming temporary hit points that last for a maximum of one hour. In addition, the target must make a DC 15 Will save or permanently lose one point of Intelligence. If a pandora manages to drain 10 or more Int points in a single encounter, it will begin to produce eggs in it abdomen and attempt to flee, as it will give birth in 10 rounds. If a pandora is killed before it can lay the eggs, the infants will chew their way out of the parent's body and scuttle away to hide until they are fully grown.
