Mstern (4e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
[edit] Mstern
Mstern are large, bird-like mammals with four leathery wings. They have two small arms between these wings, and powerful legs. They have a long tail that is tipped with a leathery fin, much like a rudder. Small bone plates lead up this tail and run across its spine to its head. Mstern are strong enough to carry 300 lbs.

[edit] Mstern Tactics
Mstern enter battle from above, initiating a suprise round with their Energy Blast, fly into battle and takes an action point to complete a Flying Strike against the target most damaged by the Energy Blast. A Mstern does not allow itself to be cornered, and sacrifices attacks to keep itself from being flanked or driven against a wall or other barrier. When bloodied, a Mstern flies into the air and uses its Energy Blast if available. It will attack from above by using Flying Strike, then retreat into the air on its next turn. It will stay aloft until it has herded its enemies into a group, then attack with Energy Blast and use its last action point to complete a Flying Strike. If Energy Blast is not available, it instead uses Flying Strike on the most dangerous target, and uses its last action point to Maul.
Mstern are sometimes found ridden by humanoid species. These Mstern follow the same tactics as their riders would in addition to their normal tactics.
[edit] Mstern Lore
A character knows the following information with a successful Arcana* check.
DC 15: Mstern make their homes in the Feywild rainforests, or natural locations rich in magic, warmth, moisture and trees. Mstern are solitary by nature, but some group together whilst hunting.
DC 20: Mstern are often used as mounts for airborne soldiers or shock troops in armies that can afford it. Mstern squads often travel in packs of three, loosely spread.
- If the Campaign Setting is set in Thunder Valley the skill check is Nature instead.
