The Mainland is a large continent inhabited by many different species it is more or less round in shape and has a gargantuan forest in the middle of it, simply known as "The Great Forest". The world is separated into several country's all with there own beliefs and agendas.
[edit] history
We know not of the origin of the mainland, only that it is very old, and that human kind did not originate here, many thousands of years ago, before the organized country's existed, there was only war and nature, this is when the legendary civil war between the elves occurred, that led to the creation of the Drow, and in turn all the elven sub species, that exist to this day, when human came, and settled here, the many peoples of the world came together into country's, that have been created, destroyed and vastly changed over the years to create the mainland that exists today.
[edit] Countries
The Beastlands: This large area dominates the west coast, it is not ruled by any one force, but is a massive war zone, where the various clans of Orcs, Gnolls, Undead and other similar creatures war with one another for dominance and power. The Beastlands is has many desolate places, due to the century's of war, although it is quiet a fertile land, and would be a perfect place for any empire environmentally speaking, but it may be a long tome before one force emerges as a victor from this colossal war.
The Bronze Empire: this empire is one of the greater powers in the land, ruled by two races Humans and Gnomes who each have an equil chance of being elected as emperor in the elections which occur between the council every decade, the people have no say in this. The bronze empire is located just south of the beastlands, and a massive wall called "the great bronze wall" has been erected to isolate the organized and civilized people from the chaos just miles away. The bronze empire has an oriental (Asian) culture that both the humans and gnomes have adapted over five thousand years. from here hail the famous Samurai and the infamous Ninja few foolish kings get on the bad side of the emperor and his war machine. the current emperor is a human called "Ping Sung" who is over 90 years old, and takes many various magical elixirs to extend his life, as such he is still one of the most feared martial artist in the land and has reined for 50 decades and is both loved and feared by his people.
Tutonia: North of the beast lands is the country of Tutonia, land of the Dark Paladins, and the unholy human king Varshan III, whom encourages the Slaughter of any who would question his rule, under his power is an army of dark paladins over two thousand strong, the monsters of the beastland know this, and are not foolish enough to travel into the land, and in fact, often hire a section of that army to aid them in there own minor wars, there not cheep, but are definitely a powerful force to be reckoned with. Tutonia only accepts Humans as citizens and prefers other races to not stay too long. Tutonia's capital is called Zhrendis.
Vanguard: this small country, lies west of Tutonia and is only protected from the beastlands by a colossal mountain range called "the Kidarian Mountains" they are by the ocean and remain un-destroyed by Tutionia, only because they prove to be good trading partners and there Queen is the sister of the king of Kalonia, a powerful nation north of Tutonia, so risk of war plays a factor. Vanguard is a peaceful place, who's armies are just a border control that keeps out most of the yellow goblins (normal goblins).\ Vanguard is neither patriarchal or matriarchal, and as such could have either a male or female monarch, at this moment, there monarch is Queen Victoria IV. A woman loved by her people as a caring and kind leader. Vanguard is home to Humans, Halflings and Elves Vanguard's capital is called Sardis.
Kalonia: North of Tutonia lies Kalonia, a Patriarchal Country of humans, Halflings and Dwarves, they are famous for there massive and strong Knighthood. The king is always human, as of now the king is Richard II. This country is Feudal, and as such, only nobles may own land, and the peasants work on there lords land as farmers and other jobs for the right to live there. Kalonia houses a massive sports event for knights from all around the world every three years, it is called "The Grand Championship of Knighthood" or Knights Day for short. Although only males can become knight in Kalonia, they do not mind female knights from other lands participating. In these games there is jousting, the sword, the bow, and a competition for every weapon available in the country, also they have the drinking competition and the beef stew eating competition. jousting is very common in Kalonia, and many knights settle issues threw a good joust, It is more or less a knights court. Saint Cuthbert is widely worshiped here, and all knights are expected to pay homage to him, among peasands any "holy" god is acceptable, anything else and thou shalt be burned at the stake ye warlock, servant of hell! Kalonia's capital is called Grandin.
Kiendra: South east of Kalonia, north east of Tutonia and north west of the grand forest is Kiendra, a country allied with Kalonia, however here one may worship whomever or whatever they want, so long as it dose not contradict basic laws such s murder or torched ect... Kiendra is the most accepting country of any other, both males and females could become monarch, It is just who is the legal heir to the throne. races are very diverse here, although the royal family is predominantly human blood the current king is George I. Kiendra's capital is Grandin, considered to be the greatest city in the whole mainland, built on the ruins of an ancient dwarf city, this city works well for the Sewer Rats (DnD Campaign Setting).
Indimanu: south of The Bronze Empire Indimanu is at the southern beaches of the land, the people here are predominately Islamic, and a mix of Human, elf and dwarf, there current sultan is Saladin VII. Many of the greatest paladins are trained here, at the capital of Bhengha. Their is much tension between Indimanu and the neighboring Christian nation of Christsfaith, and indeed the two country's have been at war before, and are likely to do so again, Indimanu is a Patriarchal nation, that is slowly giving woman more rights, as at the last war with Cristsfaith the woman on Indimanu took up arms and helped stop the attacks.
Christsfaith: East of Indimanu, and also next to the southern ocean Christsfaith is a countrys founded several hundred years ago, when the rising Christian forces allied together to form this nation, they are mostly patriarchal, but like Indimanu, are beginning to become more equal. Made up primarily of Humans with a minority of other races, there king is always a human, there current king is Henry VI, who is old and reaching the end of his rein, his heir Henry VII is next in line, The Christian Knighthood is large, toped only by the knighthood of Kalonia, whom they have beaten in the jousting once before on Knights day.
County's of the east coast: stretching from the edge of kiendra to Christfaith to the south exists well a hundred tiny countrys, ruled by variouse races, and peoples, some are allies, others are at war, some try to remain peaceful in the chaos...

High Elves: High elves often live amongst the various county's, however the bulk of there people live on the outer parts of the great forest, although they have no massive country's all high elf citys and kings would aid any of there kin in a war.

Vielian (DnD Race) Loyal servants to the church of Sylus (DnD Deity) the Vielian (DnD Race) do not seek dominance in the Beastlands, simply to make a profit of the wars of others, they sell weapons, tools and slaves to the different forces of the Beastlands, and hire out mercenary armies to the different groups, sometimes they are forced into private wars, but would prefer to pick and choose where there armies are.
Lupis (DnD Race) The Lupis (DnD Race) only wish to live in peace amongst the Beastland mountains and will combat any unwanted intruders, but would prefer to remain out of the lowland wars.
Gnoll Gnolls work in various clans like Orcs, making enemies and allies amongst themselves and fighting the other races as well, the Gnolls are not the most complex tacticians, but there sheer strength of physique and numbers makes them a deadly force to be reckoned with.
Undead Although many different kinds of undead exist here, being controlled by various groups or being wild undead, amongst them all the Necrospawn (DnD Race) stand to be the most organized and numerous, they are both intelligent and well organised, they stand to oppose the other races of the Beastlands to rule the lands as the supreme species amongst the other beast races.

Races of the Eastlands: Carvers (DnD Race): The Carvers (DnD Race) live in many nomadic tribes and standard towns, amongst the towns and villages of the carvers the city of Shiru stands as the greatest, with a population of 280'000, that completely dwarfs any other Carver clan, run by the great and benevolent king Bishiboshy II who has reined for countless years and in growing very old and sick, the next in line will be the famous warrior from the Reaver wars, Rackanishu who lead the most powerful legion "legion 14" against the Infamous Reavers in several pivotal and successful Battles, Rackanishu is strong and war-sturdy, and known to be quiet harsh, but is also known as a good and patriotic man, who only wishes for the best of his people, and of all who would oppose The Reavers.
