The waving grass of the meadow explodes upwards to reveal a glistening grey creature with four whipping tentacles and a dozen bulbous eyes.
Little is known about lurers as they are extremely rare and few who find them live to tell of it. The lurer is a strange slimy creature that pushes itself around on six slimy legs and uses its four arms and heavy beak to catch prey. Lurers do not speak.
Lurers lie in wait underground for travellers to walk to close. They can afford to have the tops of their backs sowing as they are covered in grass or some other disguise. Unless provoked, a lurer will not enter face to face combat, preferring to use their awesome strength from behind to send their victims flying. If a lurer loses an arm or two legs, it will retreat, burying itslef in soil to wait for different prey. A lurer can regrow a severed limb in 2d6+8 days.
Constrict: A lurer deals automatic arm or tentacle damage with a successful grapple check
Rend: To activate this ability, a lurer must hit with a successful bite attack. The rend attack deals damage equal to the lurer's natural attack +1-1/2 of its strength modifier.
