Across the world, and the planes beyond it, some few are born with powers over life force that archmages would kill legions to possess. Many others are affected by necrotic curses which through force of mind and determination, they have harnessed and bent to their will. The products of this are often despised for their corrupting influence, as their powers stem from the necrotic world of the Shadowfell, leading many to be persecuted by the ignorant, and those who survive are often bitter and twisted to some degree. The alluring leecher is a byproduct of this persecution, one who has learnt to channel their powers into affecting the minds of those around them, protecting them from what is often at best dislike from those who discover them. The vicious leecher is an entirely different creature, one which has learnt to take care of itself through brute force and trickery, lashing out at its harassers with a multitude of insidious abilities. They usually by no means evil, but leechers are unlikely to ever be anything other than a shade of gray, a byproduct of their fell energies and their mistreatment in many societies.
Leecher Overview |
| Characteristics: The leecher is a controller class, using either a high charisma score to ensnare your prey, while a high constitution keeps you alive, or higher strength in order to be more effectinve on the frontline. Alluring leechers focus mainly on manipulating their foes, using an enemy's low will modifiers in order to dominate them, and then using the dominated foe to cause additional havoc. The vicious leecher is a different case, having more in common with a striker, although it does contain some controller style skills. It is a compromise between semi-ranged encounter powers, and melee At-wills, many of which will knock the target around or apply status effects. |
| Religion: Leechers are not usually a particularly devout class, as many churches find them distasteful due to their Shadowfell origin, and they are often bitter over what has happened to them. Some do find redemtion in many of the unaligned churches, such as that of Ioun or Oghma. Melora is usually inclined to help them, although it depends on the time, and the personality of the leecher involved. |
| Races: The reality is that most races contain at least a few leechers, although whether they are accepted in the society depends on the race itself. Human leechers are supposedly common, but most work in secret to avoid the attention of the xenophobic general public. Elves also contain many leechers, who are shunned due to their fell origin. Overall, eladrin are the most accepting, treating leechers as equals, although some precautions are taken to stop the younger ones accidentally lashing out with their powers. |
