[edit] Strategies and Tactics
Jötunn, due to their large size, shy nature, and lack of the thick hide of most giants, tend to think stratigicly in their combat. They prefer intimidating opponents with their size, or luring them into traps to direct conflict. When pressed into combat they will use their weight and size to their advantage, frequently grappling opponents then dragging them into the swamps and waiting for them to drown. Or, if meadow Jötunn, smothering their opponent with their body against the ground.

[edit] Ecology
Environment: There are two groups of Jötunn: Meadow Jötunn and Swamp Jötunn. Meadow Jötunn live in mountain steppes and meadows, and are very rare. Swamp Jötunn are much more common. Swamp Jötunn live in bogs and swamps, hiding under the water, and surfacing infrequently to breathe. Swamp Jötunn prefer deep swamps, populated by unusual creatures that are too large to survive in a more thickly forested and less deep mudpit.
Typical Physical Characteristics: Jötunn possess very long hair, as they rarely cut it, and they also possess long cow-like tails. Jötunn have long, slender limbs, long pointy ears, and less sturdy bodies then most giants. Jötunn stand between 12' and 16' Jötunn women are slightly larger then Jötunn men.
Jötunn have a difficult time hearing the voices of most humanoid creatures, as their voices are too high pitched for a Jötunn to hear well. Jötunn voices are very deep, and sound much more like the rumble of thunder then a speaking voice. Comunication between Jötunn and other races is difficult because of this. Also, Jötunn speech is very slow compared to that of most species. However some few Jötunn have learned how to speak or at least understand common.
Meadow Jötunn have coloration much like humans. Meadow Jötunn posses roughly textured backs, and grassy hair that looks a bit like a rocky field when they are laying on their belly.
Swamp Jötunn have much odder coloration then meadow Jötunn. They tend towards rich greens, purples, and blues in eye, skin, and hair color. Swamp Jötunn also possess unusually textured hair, but their hair is silkier and, due to it's frequant wetness, slimier. They also have roughly textured backs that possess a woody apperence and texture. Swamp Jötunn will hide by diving under the water so their hair and head look like a small island in the deep swamps they prefer. They will also hide by presenting their back and hair and pretending to be a tree, or a patch of ground. Swamp Jötunn bellies are much lighter colored then their backs.
A third, medium sized type of Jötunn exist called the Huldra. Huldra are most similar to meadow Jötunn, and they are the result of Jötunn breeding with humans, or more rarely dryads. Huldra tend to live with their parents, meaning in mountain steppes, small villages near mountain steppes, or in young woods (in the case of dryad Huldra). Huldra possess large ears, a tail, and a roughly textured back, but are about human size, give or take.
Alignment: Jötunn can have any alignment. Swamp Jötunn are frequently chaotic neutral. Meadow Jötunn are frequantly lawful neutral. Huldra tend to be neutral.
[edit] Lore
[edit] Society
Jötunn do not apreciate clothing, their shear size making such materials expensive. However, Jötunn have magpie eyes, and love jewelry, the shinier the better. They have little taste for the valuables of a material, and prize durable shines over rare ones. Steel and brass are common Jötunn jewelry components, as are diamonds, due to their durability. Collars, Bracelets, Anklets, Hair-clips, and tail rings are very popular amoung Jötunn
Meadow Jötunn society tends towards farming, as opposed to hunting and gathering. They will often farm large animals, such as elephants, or grow large fields of crops. A Meadow Jötunn village is ruled by the eldest female. Meadow Jötunn do not construct many buildings, as they deal well with the open weather. However they are known for constructing elaborate stone or wood circles in which to dance. Meadow Jötunn are most known for their dances and their music. They will blow large horns made from carefully carved stalactites, and dance with bells strapped to their knees while thumping large trunks against the ground. Meadow Jötunn are often craftsmen, making bracelets and hair-braids out of leftover materials. Meadow Jötunn often possess a semi organized religion, brought to them by missionaries of other races.
Swamp Jötunn society tends towards hunting and gathering, chasing down the dangerious creatures living in the swamps, and eating them. Because of this Swamp Jötunn have a good knowledge of how to survive in the wilds. Swamp Jötunn are much more tribal then Meadow Jötunn, and because of that the males are socially more important then the females. Due to the high mortality of the swamp, most swamp Jötunn males take many 'wives'. These wives are the property of their mate, and are given to their mate by their fathers, or taken by their mate if their father dies before they are of age. Swamp Jötunn have little use for gods, and prefer to worship the more primitive and immediate nature. They are also more superstitious then Meadow Jötunn. Swamp Jötunn typically have an elder Jötunn who provides magical assistance to them as a witch doctor or a shamen. Swamp Jötunn love body decorations, tatoos, body paint, and piercings.
Any Jötunn seen away from swamps or meadows is likely an outcast, though why they were thrown out varies greatly.
Jötunn possess three languages. Their spoken language, a form of sign language, and a special long distance language made by thumping the ground rhythmically. Communication between Jötunn and humans is simplest with the last language.
