Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: This race is overpowered compared to similar first-party races, and would benefit from having less powerful traits as the race currently get everything their first party race gets and a whole bunch of questionable stuff from the vampire. Overall requires a rethink and then a rework from a mechanical perspective to better compare and integrate with the first party content. Consult the 5e Race Design Guide for help and consider checking out some of the comparable Featured Articles.

Half-Vampire[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Half-Vampires are not always a combination of human and vampire. They can be half of any race that can reproduce. They take on physical attributes from both the parents, much like a normal baby. A Thing that sets them apart is the slight purple and gray eyes, and the slightly paler skin. Features they have from their vampire parent is their claws and fangs. Since they are not a full vampire, they have inferior fangs and claws. In races that lack skin in some areas, like a Tieflings horns and a DragonBorns scales, these things become white and or gray.

Half-Vampires are always slim and fit. Much like an elf, they are tall beings. A mix between dwarf and vampire usually produce a creature that is much taller than a dwarf but shorter than another Half-Vampire.

History[edit]

Half-Vampires have always been around as long as vampires have. There are few in numbers because having a child that is half vampire is extremely rare. Most who are born with half-vampire blood are conflicted between the night and the day. Always seeking approval from both sides. Some go down the dark path and find themselves leading a group of pureblood vampires with an iron fist. While some follow the good path, trying to prove to the world that they are not bad. Some become priests to try to help those in need, doing whatever they can. When the first Half-Vampire first appeared he caused a lot of disaster for the mortal races of power. He spent years in building his army to conquer the lands. This creature died in a war, where a group of vampires overthrew him, ending his rule. This happening made people fear the Half-Vampires, knowing that they are strong and fierce.

Society[edit]

Half-Vampires usually try to live the same way as any normal child of that race. Other people of the society are frightened by the nature of the creature. Asking themselves if they are safe while there is a vampire living in the village. In some places, people are known to kill off the child as soon as it is born, seeing it as an abomination with the devil pulling strings. Ones that are not killed live a difficult life. In many towns, they harass them. Doing this leads to a life of pain sometimes causing the child to become evil. To some, it makes them strive to prove themselves to the town, leading to a good path.

When a Half-Vampire is being raised by a vampire, the vampire knows the power of the child. Teaching it everything they need to know about how to rule the night, and observing the outcome from the mortal bloodline. Some see the child as too powerful, trying to hinder their progression, to make them stay weak as long as possible.

Half-Vampire Names[edit]

They take on names from the area they are raised in. If they were raised by a human, they will have a human name.

All Half-Vampire Traits[edit]

All Half-Vampires will have these traits

You are a rare occurrence, you are not alive nor dead, you have vampire blood running through your beating heart.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution increases by 2 and your Charisma increases by 1.
Age. The vampiric blood in your veins halts the aging process inside you, so a half-vampire's lifespan is entirely dependent on how reckless they are.
Alignment. Recently turned Half-Vampires tend to live a more chaotic and wild life, although if they manage to live long enough to reach maturity they generally simmer down into a lawful neutral or lawful evil way of life, living by a set of rules or a moral code in order to avoid being hunted.
Size. Your size is Medium
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Bite. Your vampiric side gifts you with razor sharp teeth you can use as a natural weapon for 1d6 plus your Strength modifier in place of an unarmed strike. On a successful hit you gain hitpoints equal to the damage you deal along with satisfying your need for fresh blood.
Sunlight Sensitivity. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom Perception checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight. Though sunlight will not kill you, you do need to be careful how much exposure you get. Direct contact with the sun can drain you if you are not regularly drinking blood. If this happens, your resolve weakens (making it more likely you will attack someone). To remedy this without drinking blood, you must physically put yourself underground either by digging yourself a hole or going into a cave (the cave can be artificial, as in a dark, colder place with earthen material). If you allow yourself to have too much sun exposure, you must role a Wisdom check at disadvantage. Clothing can protect from direct contact with the sun and will prevent the weakening.
Vampire Heritage. You are resistant to necrotic damage and poison damage due to you vampire bloodline, but you are also vulnerable against radiant and fire damage. Silver metal can harm you more than it would an average human. It will not kill you necessarily, but it can have some nasty effects. This includes both silver weapons, which will greatly weaken you, and silver metal in non-weapon form, contact with which will cause a jolt of pain. If specifically stabbed or shot with a silver weapon, make a strength saving throw. If you fail, you immediately become much weaker and must role at disadvantage until you can heal yourself (for silver wounds, healing is much slower and requires a short rest for minima damage and a long rest for massive damage).
Vampiric Cravings. While you don't have the actual need to drink blood like a full vampire, you still have the intense craving to do so. When you see a creature bleeding within 5ft of you, you must roll a Wisdom saving throw or attack them with your bite unless you are physically unable to even make the attack.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, and one other language of your choice.
