Class Features[edit]

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Ghost shadow mages gain no new weapon, armor, or shield proficiencies.

Spells per Day: Whenever a new ghost shadow mage level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if she also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character would have gained (metamagic or item creation feats, hit points beyond that from this prestige class, and so on), except for an increased level in effective spellcasting. If a character had more the one spell casting level before becoming a shadow mage, he or she must decide to which class they add the new Spellcasting level to for purposes of determining spells per day.

Shadow Spellcasting (Su): The ghost shadow mage well understands his spellcasting style is unique, and as such strives to make the most of it. At level one and at each level indicated thereafter by the above table, the ghost shadow mage can use a Shadow Spell. A Shadow Spell is any spell the ghost shadow mage can normally cast but is altered so the spell is cast as though under the effects of Silent Spell and Still Spell. Shadow Spell is identical to a combined Sudden Silent Spell and Sudden Still Spell. The twin effects cannot be split up.

Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 1st level the ghost shadow mage can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She retains her Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if she is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, she still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. If a GSM already has uncanny dodge from a different class she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead.

Shadow Skin(Ex): At 2nd level your skin begins to fuse with shadow stuff, you gain a +2 deflection bonus to your AC. At 5th level this bonus increases by +2 and again at 9th for a total of +6. If a ghost shadow mage gets a deflection bonus from another source the bonuses on deflection stack.

Bend the Shadows (Su): At 2nd level, the ghost shadow mage learns the importance of remaining unseen and how to more easily accomplish this. He also learns how to bend shadows to his advantage in creating a forceful appearance about himself. The shadow mage gains a +2 circumstance bonus to Hide and Intimidate checks. This bonus increases by +2 at 4th level, and +2 again at 6th level.

Shadowsight (Ex): The shadow mage gains a darkvision 60, or if he already possesses darkvision gains +30 feet to the listed distance instead.

Shadow stride (Su):At 3rd level, a ghost shadow mage gains the ability to travel between shadows as if by means of a dimension door spell. The limitation is that the magical transport must begin and end in an area with at least some shadow. A ghost shadow mage can jump up to a total of 10 x his Ghost Shadow Mage level feet each day in this way; this may be a single jump of 30 feet or three jumps of 10 feet each. At 5th level and every two levels higher then 5th level, the distance a ghost shadow mage can jump each day doubles. This amount can be split among many jumps, but each one, no matter how small, counts as a 10-foot increment.

Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex): A Ghost Shadow Mage of 5th level or higher can no longer be flanked. This defense denies another rogue the ability to sneak attack the character by flanking her, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the target does.

Improved Evasion (Ex): At 7th level the ghost shadow mage ability to evade damage improves. She still takes no damage from damage on a successful Reflex saving throw against attacks such as a dragon's breath or a fireball, but henceforth she only takes half damage on a failed save. A helpless ghost shadow mage does not benefit from this ability.

Greater Shadowsight (Ex): The shadow mage can now see through any sort of darkness without hindrance, including magical darkness.

Shadow Cloak (Sp): At 7th level, the shadow mage can now encompass himself in darkness to provide protection. Once per day per two levels of shadow mage, he can activate an effect identical to that of the spells shadow mask and veil of shadows used together simultaneously as a sorcerer of his character level.

Sneak Attack This ability, gained at 2nd level, is like the rogue ability of the same name. The extra damage increases by +1d6. If a ghost shadow mage gets a sneak attack bonus from another source the bonuses on damage stack.

Shroud (Su): At 9th level, the shadow mage’s shadow cloak is now continuous and is a supernatural ability. He can suppress or activate this ability as a free action once per round

Shadow Strike (Su): At 10th level the ghost shadow mage has achieved the pinnacle of power with his unusual art. He may choose to cast spells as though originating from any shadow within 100 feet of him. For example, a ghost shadow mage moving down a corridor sees an elongated shadow around the corner and chooses to cast magic missile. While he cannot from his position see his enemies, as they are around the corner, casting from that shadow allows him to strike at his foe. This ability is usable a number of times per day equal to 6 + ghost Shadow Mage’s Int modifier.
