Physical Description[edit]

A gardevoir Source

Gardevoirs are human-like creatures with round heads and rather thin bodies. They have greenish hair that curves around their feather-like ears in the back and curves downward in the front ending near their nose. Their skin is white and seems to flow like a dress with certain areas having the same color green as their hair, those areas being the sides of the torso and the arms, giving the appearance of a long-sleeved vest of sorts. Because their skin-dress can grow to such lengths that it drags, Gardevoirs will often bind the skin to keep it from doing so. Their arms are rather thin, like their legs, and have 3 "fingers" at the end. Eyes of a pinkish or reddish color adorn their face, and a red "horn", which is said to be it's heart, protrudes from their chest.

Some Gardevoir have been known to have a very light purplish skin color instead of white, and blue-colored hair instead of green. Their eyes and chest-horn are an orangish color as well. One such gardevoir was said to be the companion of a princess from a technologically advanced kingdom.

Even stranger was the case of a Gardevoir that supposedly had red skin and hair instead of green, but the underside of it's dress-skin, which ordinarily matches the hair color, was the usual green. Rumor has it that this specimen was a incredible fighter.

Their appearance has often led to the idea that only females exist, although this is simply not true, although the rumor that their dress-like skin indicates that they are expert dancers has yielded inconclusive results...

Although it's said that Gardevoir are angels that chose to live on Earth instead of Heaven, no one knows where they came from. Contact with this race was first made on a tropical island called Hoenn, where it is believed the race actually originates from. It was only recently that a variant of this race was discovered in the far-off region of Kalos.

Gardevoir are, more often than not, Lawful Good aligned, but very rare instances of Evil Gardevoir exist. One such case is a legend in Kalos that speaks of a Gardevoir with blue hair and black dress-skin that did battle against the mythical Volcanion. While not much of the legend has been preserved, this Gardevoir was supposedly known as the "Cruel Traitor".

Gardevoirs tend to live solitary lives in forested or near urban areas and don't have much of a society to speak of. However, if there is one thing Gardevoirs are known the most for, it's their undying loyalty to any who form a close bond with them. Such is their devotion to those they care for that they will not only give their lives to protect such individuals, but will even expend most of their psychic energy to rip open black holes in the name of protecting their companions. However, since such an act has yet to be officially documented, it is thought to either be just an exaggeration simply to emphasize the kind of power Gardevoirs possess, or that only certain Gardevoirs possess such a capability.

Gardevoir Names[edit]

Because of their rather feminine appearance, most believe that either all Gardevoirs are female or that males are rare. However, such beliefs are untrue, though this idea may have been propagated through the existence of Gallades, who some consider to be "Male Gardevoirs". Their names are usually Elven or Sylvan, but Gardevoirs with Common names are not out of the ordinary.

Gardevoir Traits[edit]

Design Note: This content refers to playtest material in Unearthed Arcana: The Mystic Class.

Graceful creatures with an undying loyalty to those who they share a close bond with.
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Age. It is rumored that Gardevoirs, given how they are rumored to actually be guardian angels, are ageless and only die if their mate or closest companion dies. This is said to be due to loneliness or perhaps a feeling of lacking in purpose. However, Gardevoirs, in actuality, have similar lifespans to humans.
Alignment. Gardevoirs are almost always Neutral Good or Lawful Good, though, as mentioned before, Evil Gardevoir, though rare, have been known to exist.
Size. Gardevoirs ordinarily stand on average around 5 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Empathy. You have proficiency in the Insight skill.
Fairy Skin. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep. However, you have disadvantage on saving throws against poison and vulnerability to poison damage.
Minor Teleport. On your turn, if you haven't moved, you can use your bonus action to teleport 20 feet to an unoccupied space you can see, and your speed is reduced to 0 until the end of your turn.
Psionic Power. You know the psionic talent psychic hammer. You also know one psionic discipline of your choice from the Avatar order, but you have no psi points to use with it, and thus can only use the psionic focus of your chosen discipline unless you have psi points from another source. Starting from 3rd level, you have 2 psi points, with a psi limit of 2. At 5th level, this increases to 5 psi points with a psi limit of 3. If you gain psi points and have a psi limit from another source, the psi points are added together and you use the higher psi limit. Intelligence is your manifestation ability for this discipline. You regain expended psi points when you complete a long rest.
Languages. You can read, write and speak Common and Sylvan.
