Weapon (Maul), Legendary (requires attunement)

A huge mace imbued with potent fire magic. It fills those it strikes with inner flame, and offers protection against the resulting devastation as well as immunity to clouds of flame.

You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls with this magic weapon.

When you hit a creature with Firestarter you can mark it with Inner Flame. The creature is marked until you use this feature again, the marked creature is reduced to 0 hit points, or you dismiss the effect with a bonus action. When a creature marked with Inner Flame is reduced to 0 hit points, it explodes, killing the creature. Furthermore, a sphere centered on the creature is filled with flame. Each creature within the sphere must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. The creature takes a certain amount of fire damage on a failed save, and half this damage on a successful one.

The radius and damage of the explosion depends on the size of the creature that exploded:

  • Tiny: 5 feet, 1d6 fire damage
  • Small: 10 feet, 2d6 fire damage
  • Medium: 15 feet, 3d6 fire damage
  • Large: 20 feet, 5d6 fire damage
  • Huge: 30 feet, 7d6 fire damage
  • Gargantuan: 40 feet, 9d6 fire damage

You are immune to the damage dealt by this explosion.
