Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Ethereal Blaster.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: The Ethereal Blaster is proficient with the quarterstaff, club, sling, and dagger. The Ethereal Blaster is not proficient with any armour or shields.

Ether Pulse (Sp): At level one, the Ethereal Blaster gets a special form of attack. This attack is a pulse of ether that requires a ranged touch attack to hit and has a range of 25 ft. + 5 ft./Ethereal Blaster level. It affects targets on the Ethereal Plane and on the Material Plane. The Ether Pulse does have an arcane spell failure chance from armour. The critical hit is ×2. This attack only affects things on the same plane as you are on, but it works on any plane.

Planewalk (Su): At level 1, the Ethereal Blaster can slip between the folds of space to attack enemies as though from thin air. They can cross from the Ethereal Plane with a move action but take 2 rounds to cross back, during which time they are immobile. As an Ethereal Blaster fades away, she becomes harder to hit: Opponents have a 20% miss chance in the first round and a 50% miss chance in the second. The Ethereal Blaster can enter and exit the Ethereal Plane once a day (with this ability) at level 1. This continues until level 4, when this can be used an unlimited amount of times per day.

Ether Forms: At level 3, The Ethereal Blaster can modify her Ether Pulse with abilities called Ether Forms. Ether Forms get chosen once every 3 levels from the list below (every 6 levels, the Ethereal Blaster can change one of her Ether Forms). Only one Ether Form can be used on an Ether Pulse. Any Ether Form can be chosen at any level, but they require checks (Int Bonus + 1/2 Ethereal Blaster levels (rounded down) against the DC) to succeed without a mishap. When the Ethereal Blaster fails the required check by 1-4, the Ether Pulse activates as normal (but without the added Ether Form) and when the check is failed by 5-9, the Ether Pulse damage is done on the caster. If the check is failed by 10 or more, both the Ether Pulse damage and the Ether Form effect are done on the caster. For this check, there is no automatic failure on a natural one or success on a natural 20.

Ether Goo (Su): This Ether Form gives the Ether Pulse the effect of a Tanglefoot Bag if it hits the target. DC: 18

Ether Splash (Su): This Ether Form gives the Ether Pulse a splash damage effect. If the Ether Pulse hits, anything in the adjacent squares gets hit with damage equal to the Ethereal Blaster's level (Reflex Half, DC 10 + 1/2 Ethereal Blaster's level + Ethereal Blaster's Intelligence modifier). DC: 15

Precise Pulse (Su): This Ether Form changes the Ether Pulse's critical hit damage/threat range to 19-20/×3. DC: 17

Chain Pulse (Su): This Ether Form makes the Ether Pulse attack a second target (in addition to the first target) with a separate attack roll. DC: 22

Ether Bang (Su): This Ether Form gives the Ether Pulse the effect of a Thunderstone if it hits the target. DC: 18

Ether Lazer (Su): This Ether Form changes the Ether Pulse to a 120ft line with a diameter of 5ft (no attack roll is necessary) (Reflex Half, DC 10 + 1/2 Ethereal Blaster's level + Ethereal Blaster's Intelligence modifier). DC: 17

Ether Guide (Su): This Ether Form gives the Ether Pulse the ability to avoid obstacles to reach its target. In addition, the Ethereal Blaster does not need a line of sight to hit her target (but she must have had a line of sight to the target within the past three rounds). DC: 17

Ether Aim (Su): This Ether Form gives the Ether Pulse an extra +5 bonus to hit. This stacks with any other bonus. DC: 12

Ether Boom (Su): This Ether Form gives the Ether Pulse an extended blast range of 30ft (no attack roll is necessary) (Reflex Half, DC 10 + 1/2 Ethereal Blaster's level + Ethereal Blaster's Intelligence modifier). DC: 25

Improved Planewalk (Su): At level 5, the Ethereal Blaster can better travel to and from the Ethereal Plane. They can cross from the Ethereal Plane with a free action and to the Ethereal Plane with a move action. The Ethereal Blaster can enter and exit the Ethereal Plane once a day (with this ability) at level 5. This continues until level 15, when this can be used an unlimited amount of times per day. The Ethereal Blaster can still use Planewalk.

Greater Planewalk (Su): At level 13, the Ethereal Blaster can better travel to and from the Ethereal Plane. They can cross to and from the Ethereal Plane with a free action. The Ethereal Blaster can enter and exit the Ethereal Plane twice a day (with this ability) at level 5. This continues until level 17, when this can be used an unlimited amount of times per day. The Ethereal Blaster can still use Planewalk and Improved Planewalk.

Perfect Planewalk (Su): At level 18, the Ethereal Blaster can better travel to and from the ethereal plane. They can cross from the Ethereal Plane with a immediate action and to the Ethereal Plane with a free action. The Ethereal Blaster can enter and exit the Ethereal Plane twice a day (with this ability) at level 18. This continues until level 20, when this can be used an unlimited amount of times per day. The Ethereal Blaster can still use Planewalk, Improved Planewalk, and Greater Planewalk.

Playing an Ethereal Blaster[edit]

You do not have to follow this guideline if you find something below your expectations. You can easily make something up on your own.

Religion: They could follow any Deity if they so wished, but they must follow the secrets of the True Elves. True Elves are what Elves were before they came to the Material Plane. In their realm, they were God-like creatures. The usual Elves are weaker than True Elves due to the time they've spent in the Material Plane. The True Elven secrets have allowed the ones who learn their ways the ability to manipulate Ether.

Other Classes: This class is very Similar to a Monk, so One way to think of them would be that Ethereal Blasters are trained in a Monastery. In my Campaigns, the Monastery is an ancient secret owned by Gray Elves.

Combat: Scout. They activate Planewalk, and if the Dungeon Master is Nice, he'll give you a Big Bonus to Hide checks for being Insubstantial.
