Eldritch Giant (4e Race)

From D&D Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
Scales.png This page is of questionable balance. Reason: A race should not be large (without penalties). Force resistance should scale with level (+1/2 level), Force Missile should have +2 attack bonus per tier to keep up with weapons/implements. What's the duration on Eldritch Blade? Perhaps clarify that it is a Weapon of the Heavy Blade group?

Eldritch giants come from a different time-- an earlier age when the primoridals made the world. Although fashioned from fire, stone, and storm, the primordials' wondrous creation was heavily invested with magic, and the eldritch giants aided their primordial lords in the world's formation. Although their powers have ebbed since those days, eldritch giants remember their ancient mastery of magic and forever seek to regain it.

--Quote from Monster Manual 2

Play an Eldritch Giant if you want...

  • To be taller than any of your companions.
  • To be master of Arcane and Weaponry.
  • To be descended from those Giants that formed the world.
  • To never be caught without a weapon
  • To be a member of a race that favors the Wizard, Monk, and Fighter classes.

[edit] Physical Qualities

Eldritch Giants range in their size, especially a fully grown one. Eldritch giants, when born, are about 5'6" in height, weighing more than a human of that size. Once they're mature at about age 20, they're about 13'7" and have pointed ears, but these get less pointed as they advance to be titans. At age 33, they can reach sizes of 16'9" to 18'. These giants are called Titans that reach these sizes (which all of them do). They have eyes that glow like an orb. Their eyes are a light shade of cyan, and they also have markings on their skin of the same color. Their skin is purple, never any other color. Eldritch Giants' hair is black, but it gets shaved off anyway. Eldritch Giants die at about 150 years of age.

[edit] Playing an Eldritch Giant

Eldritch Giants are typically competitive, trying to get to the top. Eldritch Giants are fond of new arcane secrets, striving to increase their own power and achieve the power as the Eldritch Giants of old. They do have a savage nature which they can put off, though not easily if they're used to it.

Eldritch Giant Characteristics: Competitive, obsessed with magic, savage

Male Names: some Eldritch Giants have elven names, other have human names.

Female Names: some Eldritch Giants have elven names, other have human names.

[edit] Eldritch Giant Adventurers

Three sample Eldritch Giant adventurers are described below.

Adrie is an Eldritch Giant Fighter. She was one of the helpers of the primordials that formed the world. When the war started between the gods and primordials, she fought with the primordials. Once the primal spirits stopped the feud, she came to the world that she had helped created. She was crushed to see that her own kindred enslaved other mortals. She resolved to help them, gradually helping the slaves. It was later that they found out, and started a hunt for her. She was in a fight with two of the guards, when some adventurers came. She was badly wounded at that time. But these adventurers showed strength in them. After the fight with the guards, she remarked, "It's amazing how much power can be contained in such a small body."

Carric is an Eldritch Giant Barbarian. His family was near The Demon Wastes in their planet Ebberon. As a young lad, he ventured into the Demon Wastes for a little adventure. There, he infuriated the Demon God who sent his armies against their clan. He ran and warned his family. They hurridly packed some provisions and left. They kept running until their strength was gone. The demons caught up and slew most of his family. He was on the edge of death by the time some adventurers found him. They fed him until he was better, and as one adventurer said, "And it wasn't easy feeding him either. He eats more food than 12 cows."

Varis is an Eldritch Giant Sorcerer. She had been working with small bands of mercenaries since she was able to pick up a sword. She earned a fair wage because she was the bulk of their group. One time, though, one of the members got cocky and decided that there was nothing they couldn't do. The others agreed, and so did she. They decided to challenge the gods themselves. They tried to find a temple to destroy so that they could invoke the god's wrath. They decided to do Kord's temple. Unfortunantly, that particular temple was trained in monks, avengers and invokers. All her buddies were dead. She had barely escaped. She decided to go with the adventuring life, and has never told a soul about what happened.
