Elder Bairns[edit]

Personality[edit]

They are an extremely individual race, living by their whims and caring not for any other. They are similiar to animals in their following of desires eating, drinking and killing whenever and whoever they want. They are not an arrogant race they simply don't care about anyone else, they live for the moment and it's extremely rare to find one who thinks their actions through. They tend to view other races as either food or an annoyance, never caring to consider their worth beyond how tasty they look.

Physical Description[edit]

Elder Bairns look almost identical to humans, seemlessly blending into normal society while deciding on their next meal. Elder Bairns exist nowadays only as the distant descendants of a long lost race of True Elder Bairns, thus they appear to mostly resemble their humans who they've interbred with for centuries. The notable distinctions to this are a sharpening of features and general predatory look to the Elder Bairn. This might manifest as a pointed chin, chiselled check bones and long fingers and sharp nails as well as a aura of quiet danger. When fighting, feeding or angry however, an Elder Bairn will show two major differences to its 'base' race. These are over large fangs on both the top and bottom jaw and slitted glowing red pupils, similar to a snakes.

Relations[edit]

Relations with other races is terrible many consider them vampires and so wish to exterminate them all, even those who know the differences between the two rarely differentiate. Relations with other Elder Bairns are almost as bad.

True Elder Bairn[edit]

  • The remaining True Elder Bairns are similar to their descendants but appear even more predatory and threatening, most are also extremely beautiful and powerful warriors. The few who have resisted any integration with human society still retain there monstrous features. They appeare slightly larger than the standard human with pale white hides, taloned hands and squashed bat-like faces, they persevere in the forgotten places and are hunted by both humans and there more civilised kin. Regardless of appearance, there increased physical abilities only make them even more headstrong and combined with their bad health and self-assurance usually results in their early deaths.

  • Kresnik Precursors (Ex): A True Elder Bairn can extend their life span and heal their wounds by feeding from monstrous beings. They can suck blood from a victim with their fangs by making a successful grapple check. If it pins the foe, it drains blood, dealing 3d6 points of constitution damage each round the pin is maintained. On each successful attack the True Elder Bairn gains 20 temporary hit points that for up to 24 hours. By doing this they can indefinitely prolong their life-span, the character gains an extra month of life for every CR of creatures killed by this attack. However, all True Elder Bairns are unable to age physically past the time when they first fed from another, so one who first fed as a 10 year old will always appear exactly as they did then regardless of how much time passes. Should they 'run out' of time the character will die a seemingly normal death, appearing to suddenly die of unknown causes. This attack can be used on any living magical, monstrous or immortal creatures, so wizards can be eaten but not normal humans or mundane animals. A true Elder Bairn can also feed on a dead creature so long as it hasnt been deceased for more than 5 minutes, by doing this they only gain a number of months equal to one tenth its CR.
