Crossbow, Double Barreled (3.5e Equipment)

This double-grooved crossbow can be used as a normal light crossbow by anyone proficient in that weapon.
Characters with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Double Barreled Crossbow) can use it to fire two bolts at once. Loading each bolt is a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity.
Once two bolts are loaded, the next attack fires both bolts at the same target. The wielder makes one attack roll with a -2 penalty to determine if both bolts strike the target. If the attack is successful, both bolts deal normal damage. If the attack is a critical hit, only one bolt deals extra damage, and extra sneak attack damage is applied only once.
Normally, operating a double-barreled crossbow requires two hands. However, you can shoot, but not load, a double-barreled crossbow with one hand at a –2 penalty on attack rolls. You can shoot a double-barreled crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two light weapons. This penalty is cumulative with the penalty for one-handed firing.
