Discussion:Why isn't every Prestige Class on the Wiki?

Why didn't you add every prestige class on the wiki? (please don't just answer "we can't" or something like that. Write the reason.)[edit]

Well, the reason is because besides the core books (as in The Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, and Player's Handbook), not a lot of content is "open game content". Open Game Content is game mechanics/monsters/races/classes and whatnot that's allowed to be reproduced in other areas because of the Open Game License v1.0a. The gist of that is, it allows us to put the stuff Wizards of the Coast says we can online. If content doesn't have that, we can't post it online. Its more complicated than that (and I'm sure I missed some points), but yeah, that is why you can't find everything published in every DnD book on the wiki here.

you can't even put the names on?

Lord Dhazriel 15:49, 10 February 2009 (MST)[edit]

Yes but someone need to do the job. There is list of all PrC on Wizard of the Coast.

Is it legal to put the stats on the website under a homebrew name taht is not the name of the class or is it just unlegal for the names and/or stats to be on the website?

Aarnott 16:23, 10 February 2009 (MST)[edit]

The game statistics, name, description, etc. of Prestige Classes (and any other content that isn't open content for that matter) is intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast. Posting the exact same statistics under a different name would still violate laws. I can go into the specifics if you want, but I think it is sufficient enough to say that if it seems like you are stealing an idea, you probably are and it is probably illegal.

Now, variants of existing Prestige Classes is completely legal. Consider the Arcane Archer, Spellcasting Variant. Even if the Arcane Archer were in a non open content sourcebook, this class is legal because it provides a sufficient amount of variation from the original Arcane Archer prestige class. In short, this idea is MorkaisChosen's idea, not Wizard's of the Coast's.

There are also a few rules on trademarks that only come up in special situations. You won't run into these unless you are trying.

Hope this helps!

Would paying Wizards Of The Coast help or it would be too expensive?

Lord Dhazriel 16:49, 10 February 2009 (MST)[edit]

No it impossible. I guess it cost nothing to ask. But it would be a waste of time in my humble opinion.

TK-Squared 16:57, 10 February 2009 (MST)[edit]

We can't.

Tipttt 17:35, 10 February 2009 (MST)[edit]

one last question.

Daniel Draco 17:51, 10 February 2009 (MST)[edit]
