Discussion:Transitioning To Tactical Telecommunicating Technology

Hey, I was wondering about running a game via Skype or possibly as a last resort a group message on FB. My wife and I are expecting a baby (soon I'll be reading this thread with her in my arms. Crazy.) so I won't be able to get together with my group for about 18 years. I was considering Skype because that's all I really know about. I'm sure there are better options. Ideally something with a way to put maps on screen and maybe even manipulate them so you show movement and terrain. Additionally, this would open up the possibility of finding new players who actually want to show up to play. Regrettably, everyone will have to bring their own snacks. Obviously, you would have to trust everyone to be honest about dice rolls and such, but I think this could work. I appreciate any and all constructive feedback. --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.56.17.187 (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts.

Welp, sorry for the wait. I've previously played and run campaigns over Skype. We all got in a group call hosted by the DM, and used a free program called Gametable which can be hosted by anyone, has a grid and allows you to draw maps, save setups, place images, give attributes, chat, publically/semi-privately roll dice, even whisper, hide portions of map from players, etc. Pretty much anything you need for long-range DnD - 'twas good. The only issue with at-home Dnd is people are more prone to being distracted, we managed to hold solid 6 hour games, though. Good luck.
