Discussion:Is it possible to change the shape of a magic item?

From D&D Wiki

Hi! Recently my character found a magic tunic with symbols that could give her some problems in the continent she is. Would it be possible to change it's shape or remove those symbols without changeing it's properties? Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.58.179.90 (talkcontribs) 13:37, 30 July 2014 (MDT). Please sign your posts.

I'd say that'd be largely up to your DM. In a lot of cases, if not most of them, the shape of an item is really just flavor text. Unless the DM wants the shape, size, or runes to do or mean something, there's no hard rule against changing them, so long as your DM agrees to the method or changes specified. Keep in mind that for all of rigidity in 3.5e or DND in general, it is still a very open-ended game and relies on your imagination to fill in the blanks. Jwguy (talk) 13:37, 30 July 2014 (MDT)
