In the hands of a sorcerer this +4 longsword becomes a +6 vorpal longsword with devastating powers. The Darkblade was created by the sorcerer Volkov and is one of the few weapons that cannot be destroyed or stolen in any way whatsoever. It is a dark shade of blood red with three black lines running down the spine. The only way for the Darkblade to pass to another hand is if the left hand of the previous wielder is cut off. A duplicate of the Darkblade may be created but will not have the following abilities. Seven times per day the wielder of the Darkblade can cast any 8th or lower level spell. 3 times per day the wielder of a duplicate can cast any 4th or lower level spell. A critical hit with the Darkblade may have 5d6 damage subtracted from the attack to force the defending player or monster to make a DC 15 fortitude save, a DC 15 reflex save and a DC 15 will save. If the defender fails the fortitude save, she becomes unable to attack or use spells for 3d6 rounds; if she fails the reflex save, she takes an extra 12 damage; if she fails the will save, she becomes under the control of the wielder for 1d6 rounds. If the defender fails two or more saves, she dies. If activated, the massive black ruby in the pommel can cast epic fireball, lesser. This ability can be used 10 times, after that, the ruby is useless until the Darkblade passes to another user.
