Crodluwere (3.5e Racial Class)

Crodluwere[edit]

This creature class refers to a lycanthropic, heavy Crodlu (from the Dark Sun campaign setting from Dungeon Magazine's 111 and 110) and it's progression, rounded out by a Dire template (from Sword & Sorcery's Tome of Horrors). That way, it's an easier build.

The Crodluwere is a recent addition to Athas, along with other animalistic shapeshifters returning to the dying world. Thought to be extinct by most respectable sages after the mass purges that plagued the world, these new lycanthropes are heralded as a returning of life to the dead planet.

Crodluwere's aren't just powerful based on their lycanthropy; with three natural weapons, a hefty natural armor bonus, and an HD progression that remains on-par with most normal classes, the CrodluWere makes an excellent choice as an up-front melee combatant, which is perfect in the Athasian gladiatorial arenas.

The Crodluwere stands out among monster classes because it is one of the few lycanthropes to actually progress in this way. It's biggest features are it's damage reduction, alternate form ability, and the hallmark calling card of all lycanthropes: it's cursed bite. At first level, the only major ability that shows is the alternate form ability and all requisite subtypes and a slow progression of it's numerical bonuses. This continues at a fixed rate until fifth level where it gains it's Crodlu empathy ability. After that, it's a straight shot to 10th level when it's numerical bonuses shear off and it gains the curse of lycanthropy special ability.

The Crodluwere's HD progress at a variable rate; it was the most difficult part of the entire build. Thank you for being patient with it.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the CrodluWere.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: CrodluWeres are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any armor or shields.

Pounce (Ex): At 3rd level, but only when it is in hybrid or animal form, a CrodluWere can make a full attack action even after a charge.

Ram (Ex): At 7th level, but only when it is hybrid or animal form, a CrodluWere can make a special bull rush attempt against an opponent it attacks at the end of a charge. If it succeeds in pushing it's opponent back 5 feet or more, it can pounce at the end of the bull rush.

Alternate Form (Su): As a standard action, a CrodluWere can assume the form of a Dire Heavy Crodlu or a bipedal hybrid form.

Crodlu Empathy (Ex): A 2nd level CrodluWere gains a +4 bonus on all charisma-related checks when dealing with Crodlus.

Curse of Lycanthropy (Su): Any humanoid or giant bitten by a 10th-level CrodluWere must make a DC 15 fortitude save or contract lycanthropy.
