These friendly yellow-feathered birds resemble a giant chicken, or sometimes, a canary. They are about the same size of an ostrich, but the beak, feathers, and wings look more like a chicken's. They have long legs and necks and can be saddled in order to carry a rider.

In a world where horses are fairly rare, their place is taken by Chocobos, or, if something a little less Final Fantasy is to your taste, Horseclaws.

They are easily trained as mounts, and are used similarly to horses.

Chocobos are omnivores, but prefer greens and nuts.

Chocobos do not speak, though they do understand basic commands in common.

[edit] Combat

Chocobos may attack with a peck attack while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or she succeeds in a Ride check. A riderless and packless chocobo may also make a claw attack.

Chocobo kick (Ex): If the chocobo charges, he may make a slam attack dealing 2d4+3 damage. If it hits, the chocobo can attempt to trip the opponent (+3 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the chocobo.

Carrying Capacity: A light load for a chocobo is 300 pounds; a medium load, 301-600 pounds; a heavy load, 601-900 pounds. A chocobo can drag 4,500 pounds.
