[edit] Introduction

Getting a stat bonus other than Dexterity to AC is nice. Getting double that stat bonus to AC is really nice. How about six times that stat bonus? What? You want more? Well cast Shieldbearer I'll get you eight times.

Warning: this build uses the Book of Exalted Deeds. Some people consider this cheesy, myself included.

[edit] Highlights

Aescetic Mage gives your charisma modifier to AC. Risen Martyr 1 gives a deflection bonus to AC equal to your charisma modifier. Mystic Wanderer 1 gives an exalted bonus to AC equal to your charisma modifier. If you spend a turning attempt (which you have 3 + your charisma modifier of), the Shieldbearer spell (sorcerer) enhances your AC by an extra amount equal to your charisma modifier (Divine Shield). The bellflower tattoo allows you to double your charisma modifier for 8 rounds four times per day.

If you start with charisma 15, you will get 5 ability score increases, making it 20 (+5). Add in wishes (+5) and a cloak of charisma +6 and you get a 31 charisma. You also get +2 from Risen Martyr 2. With a 33 charisma you have a +11 modifier. This means, with a turn spent, using the Shieldbearer spell, and bellflower used, you get a +88 AC.

Also once per day you can get +4 charisma from the charm domain. Use this to increase AC by an additional +16 for a total of +104 AC.

You also have base saves better than a level 20 monk, level 10 monk unarmed damage, SR 23, and some other nifty prestige abilities.

[edit] Munchkin-Size Me

With a point buy, your charisma can be 18. 3 extra points nets you an additional +2 modifier, which is +16 AC for a total of +104 AC. Once per day this can be +130 AC.

In Champions of Valor there is a paladin substitution level that allows you for 1 round per 2 paladin levels gain charisma as an insight bonus to AC. A level of Tattooed monk and a level of Risen Martyr can be dropped for 2 paladin levels. That will give an extra +26 AC once per day (+30 AC if you use the charm domain). That gives +160 AC.

[edit] Side Notes

You easily get other AC bonuses from Dex, natural armor (plant domain gives barkskin -- with an orange ioun stone and prayer beads you can get +4 AC), armor (mage armor from sorcerer levels +4 AC), monk levels, and shield enhancement bonuses. All in all, you can easily get an additional +12.

Ideally with lots of funds:

+6 dex item (dex is now +5 modifier) +4 dex from wishes (dex is now +7 modifier) haste (+1 dodge to AC) Amulet of natural armor +5 (+5 natural armor to AC) Bracers of Armor +8 (+8 armor to AC) Dusty Rode Ioun Stone (+1 insight to AC -- does not stack with CoV paladin ability) Monk's belt (+1 AC)

Net Munchkined AC: 139 four times per day (155 once per day)

Using Champions of Valor substitution level: 193 once per day

I want to look at finding a arcane spontaneous caster that gets level 2 spells faster than level 4. I like the charisma synergy, however.

[edit] Limitations

An alignment change, Book of Exalted Deeds, death, rising as a martyr... It is a stretch.

[edit] FAQ

Q: Pardon me, i am new to Wiking, but how do you use a shield, and get all you unarmed bonuses from monk and Mystic Wanderer?

A: Because it is an animated shield. He isn't "carrying" it technically, so the shield bonus still applies.

DMG p.218 A character with an animated shield still takes any penalties associated with shield use, such as armor check penalty, arcane spell failure chance, and nonproficiency.

this is sounds pretty specific,as in it is as if the monk still takes penalties from using the shield, do you have a citation from somewhere that says this works?

Carrying a shield does not make you armed. Armed refers to a weapon.
