Evasion (Ex) Briar can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If he makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage. He does not gain the benefit of evasion if he is helpless.
Trap Sense (Ex) Briar gains an intuitive sense that alerts him to danger from traps, giving him a +1 bonus on Reflex saves made to avoid traps and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by traps.
Uncanny Dodge (Ex) Briar can react to danger before his senses would normally allow him to do so. He retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if he is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, he still loses his Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized.

Background[edit]

Briar was born 120 years ago as Briars Moss. His clan of Daemons, one of the few clans of the reclusive race in existence, were hunted down by a religious group, who were attempting to capture them. The attempt at capture resulted in the killing of most of his clan, and seperated him from them. He only remembers this as a half dream, however, since it happened when he was five. He grew up in a human village until he was about twenty, when his horns grew in. After that, he became something of a Wanderer. He currently makes his living as an adventurer, owing to his natural talents with magic.

Appearance[edit]

Briar's natural appearance is that of a young human, perhaps only 14 or so, with tanned skin and brown hair. His hair, no matter what color it is, has a slight iridescent sheen. He generally keeps his horns hidden by withdrawing them into his body, but whenever he his in combat they will extend.

Briar's horns[edit]

Briars horns extend from his temples and sweep back, broadening right after his ears and tapering off about 5" behind his head. They appear to be made of a redwood colored bone. They have an HP of 26 (5d4+1d6).

Personality[edit]

For a person with so much to be sad about, Briar is a remarkably happy individual. He is a loud, impulsive, jovial person. On rare occasions, he can be overcome with memories of his past, but those moments tend to pass quickly. He has a slightly jaded outlook on life, partially owing to people linking Daemons to Demons, a link based in rumor, not truth.

The Crystal[edit]

The quartz crystal which Briar carries is a curious creation of magic, formed along with his horns. The crystal, which is about 6" long, is perfectly formed, save for the fact that the center is missing. The shape of this cavity resembles face and neck of a female daemon. Briar originally thought this was an image of his mother, however, years later, he also thinks that it may simply have been his own urge to find another member of his race that lead his unconscious mind to create the crystal. He honestly can't tell you which theory he thinks is correct.

Tactics[edit]

Briar will not enter combat unless attacked.

If attacked, he will use shadow step and cloak dance to attempt to launch a sneak attack his opponent.

He will use his Reality Shapers powers until the DC of his save rolls reaches 24, at which point he will stop.

Briar will never fight to the death, and if his HP drops below 5, he will attempt to flee.

DM Notes[edit]

Briar made an appearance in a sub-plot involving Sheogi, as the Daemon that her creator often sought out. He would later appear in a Sci-fi story I was writing, where most of his actual histoy and personality were nailed down. Strange how things work, no?
