Bow of Versatility (5e Equipment)

Weapon (longbow), very rare (requires attunement)

This black bow bears resemblance to that of a recurve bow but changed in slight ways. The person wielding this weapon doesn't require arrows to fire it (unless fired normally), instead, it summons an arrow into the persons offhand that changes colors based on the damage it is shooting. The arrow takes the form the person wielding it wishes. This bow carries 15 charges. The person would name a damage type they want to be fired in order for an arrow of corresponding damage type be summoned.

  • If fired normally the damage would be 1d8 piercing + your Dexterity modifier (requires arrows).
  • If the person so chooses to fire augmented arrows, the arrows deal 1d8 Piercing + 1d6 additional damage of the chosen damage type. (1 charge needed)
  • When the person chooses to fire the augmented arrow and chooses to expend 3 charges, and when the arrow impacts, every creature within a 30-foot radius of the arrow must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 of the damage type on a failed save and half on a successful save. No other creatures in the radius take the damage of the arrow unless it's the area of effect damage, only the creature hit with the arrow takes the arrow damage(1d8) and the area of effect damage.
  • If the user so chooses to expend 15 charges at once, when the arrow impacts, every creature within a 40-foot radius must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 6d8 of the damage type on a failed save and half on a successful save. No other creatures in the radius take the damage of the arrow unless it's the area of effect damage, only the creature hit with the arrow takes the arrow damage(1d10)and the area of effect damage. After using this ability the user loses the ability to fire this bow normally or use additional charges until a long rest has been completed.
  • The weapon regains 1d10 + 2 charges at the stroke of midnight.
  • The damage types that can be fired are: acid, cold, fire, force, lightning, necrotic, piercing, poison, psychic, radiant, and thunder.
