Dracqus are humanoids with draconic and equine features. The scales on their skin are very small, like that of a fish, and so they do not look as rugged as a dragonborn. They also have regular human hair, or a horses mane in some cases that is long like hair. A dracqus' head is long like a horse, with flaring nostrils like a dragon. They have a long tail like tieflings do. Their toes and fingers end in sharp nails. The color of their scales is usually blue, white or silvery, though this does not necessarily speak of their heritage like for dragonborn.

History[edit]

Dracqus are creatures originating from the continent of Kara-Tur, where the slender, serpentine, eastern dragons dwell above golden mists atop mysterious mountains. Unlike the typical evil dragons, these are benevolent at best towards smaller creatures, and utterly repulsed by them at worst. Many of these dragons have the power to change into equine creatures as means of helping heroes. They can also take on human forms to lay with mortals they desired. A dracqus is born as a result of that union, between dragon and human. It is thus no surprise a dracqus looks a bit odd compared to a dragonborn. While flight for them is not a given, and they are not capable of breath weapons, they have mystic powers in their blood from their dragon parent to manipulate the natural world around themselves. They come in less variety than dragonborn, but have a long history nevertheless. As descendants of the celestial dragons, they are seen as good omens wherever they may pass.

Society[edit]

Dracqus live mainly in human societies scattered about the Shou Lung empire. Some prefer the wilderness of the plains, and others migrated to Faerun as a result of war and strife. Regardless, dracqus lack a society of their own, and they have little necessity to make one. This is because they fit in well among humans in Kara-Tur, who see them as good luck. Dracqus generally are industrious workers of society in a mundane sense. In Faerun, they lack the same status, but they fare no worse than dragonborn. In fact, some may live among their western relatives. However, it is known that the evil dragons of Faerun dislike the dracqus for their difference and ability to live among humans. To them, their dragon blood is not authentic.

Dracqus Names[edit]

Dracqus have both Oriental and western names. They are fluent in Shou as well as Common. And of course, the know Draconic. They will often have one name in Common, and one in Shou, both influenced by their draconic heritage.
