Bloodblade Necromancer[edit]

The Bloodblade Necromancer's hands drip with his own tainted blood constantly, this ghastly elixer has necrotic properties, capable of raising any dead who are unfortunate enough to find it within their bodies. This trait, combined with his stealth and sheer ruthlessness make him a formidable foe.

The Bloodblade Necromancer is quite rogue-like in many aspects, and thus operates in a similar manner most of the time. He functions best when he can hide in the shadows, backed up by a heavy hitter, who can reduce his potential victim's health to the point where he himself can step in, kill the target, and acquire a new minion.

Abilities: Dexterity is the most important ability for the Bloodblade Necromacer, as he wears little or no armor, and has many skills based on it,it also aids his Reflex save, Constitution is a close second as it's essential for the otherwise frail Bloodblade Necromancer's survival.

Races: Most Bloodblade Necromancers are Human or Half-Elf, though Elves who are cruel enough to take up this mantle are quite talented Bloodblade Necromancers, as are halflings. Dwarves and Gnomes are unlikley to take up this path.

Alignment: Any Evil.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Bloodblade Necromancer.

Bloody Strike A Blood Blade Necromancer deals an extra 1d4 points of damage when he attacks this damage is treated as both poison and magical but is not applies to any form or magical attack, this damage only applies to both melee and ranged attacks but is reduced to a d2 on ranged attacks, this damage increases to 2d4 at 3rd Level, 3 at 5th level, and so on. When a corporeal creature (excluding undead) is killed by a Bloody strike, it's body is poisoned by the blood of the Bloodblade Necromancer, the poisoned corpse rises under the control of the Bloodblade Necromancer, as a Zombie of it's race and Level, if the number of HD that target has prevents it from being raised as a Zombie, the Bloodblade necromancer can select any non-intellegent, corpreal undead creature instead. The undead raises at the start of the Bloodblade Necromancers turn, and remains alive permanently, the Bloodblade Necromancer can only control 1 undead in this way at a time, also the new undead minion is treated as a fighter type class equal to the level of the Bloodblade Nechromancer capable of leveling up and gaining new stats, as well as feats and anything else a character might gain from leveling. If the new minion had levels in any other class they lose these stats and become a full fighter. Multi-classing is not allowed for the minion only a fighter class is allowed. 1d4 of Bloody Strike is equal to 1d6 of Sneak Attack for the purpose of qualifying for feats, and Prestige Classes.

Graverobber A Blood Blade Necromancer in a cemetery of other burial ground (crypts, tombs, ect...) can make a Search Check, in an attempt to find any magical item, this takes 1 hour, and the Search DC is equal to the DC of a craft check required to create that item. Using Graverobber is an evil act.

Stability of Blood At 8th Level the Bloodblade Necromancer's blood becomes far more stable, thus the undead raised by his Bloody Strike Ability remain alive permanently , at 12th level, the Bloodblade can control two undead minions instead of one, and is known as "Improved Stability of Blood"

Share the PainWhen a 5th level Bloodblade Necromancer that controls an undead due to it's Bloody Strike ability takes damage, the undead minion takes 25% percent of the damage in place of it's master, at 10th level this increases to 50%, and at 15th this increases to 75%, and at 20th this ability becomes "Take the Pain" meaning that all damage is dealt to the minion in place of its master. However when you gain "Improved Stability of Blood" "Share the pain" can only target one undead minion permanently and you must specify which minion you want to Share the pain.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Bloodblade Necromancers are proficient with all Simple weapons, Rapiers, and Hand Crossbows. Light Armor, and no shields.

Ex-Bloodblade Necromancer[edit]

When a Bloodblade Necromancer ceases to be evil, he looses his Bloody Strike Ability, and all other abilities based on it, including Stability of Blood, and Share the Pain.

Playing a Bloodblade Necromancer[edit]

Religion: Nerull and Vecna are the chief deities in the Bloodblade order, though other deities of death, such as Wee Jas, somtimes claim them, as does Hextor.

Other Classes: A Bloodblade necromancer is shockingly arrogant, and cares little for anyone else, though he does appreciate the strength at-arms demonstrated by Barbarians, Fighters, and Rangers, and the stealth abilities of rogues. They have an understandable loathing of Paladins, and simply look down on other classes.

Combat: Typicaly a rogue-like roll is assumed, however, the Bloodblade Necromancer is also likely to take risks in order to hit a Bloody Strike and Gain control of an undead minion.

Advancement: Bloodblade Necromancers tend to remain Bloodblade Necromancers, however some find a little extra muscle desirable, and consequently take levels of Barbarian, Fighter, Ranger or, due to lack of ranged attack power they may take levels in Wizard or Sorcerer but this is a rare advancement for your average Bloodblade Necromancer.

Bloodblade Necromancers are loners, who prefer the company of dead bodies to the living, most of them spend much of their lives in hiding, to avoid persecution, however, they are just as likely to cut the person responsible for it's throat.

Daily Life: Bloodblade Necromancers, when not adventuring, often seek jobs as gravediggers,or other careers involving ties to the dead, this reflects their lives as adventurers, they enjoy causing and watching death, and are facinated by rebirth, and thus spend spare time studying these when available in many cases.

Notables: Ronik Bloodspiller, 20th Level, and original Bloodblade Necromancer, Ronik is the head of the Bloodblades, a loose, but powerful organization.

Organizations: The Bloodblade Order has rare meetings, attendance is not compulsory, but it is expected, these meetings tend to take place in crypts and tombs, and involve the practice of necromancy, and various other not-so-wholsome pursuits.

NPC Reactions: Almost all NPCs, excluding those with a background in Necromancy, are apprehensive, if not scared, to converse with a Bloodblade Necromancer, though this may be due to the constant bloodloss from their hands, that makes them so deadly in the first place.

10 Bloodblade Necromancers have the power to raise the dead that they kill with their "Bloody Strike" ability, if their flow of blood onto his weapon can be prevented and the blade cleaned, then this ability is negated.
15 Bloodblades are the product of a secret ritual, and extensive training with necromancy, they raise zombies when possible, however if the creatures strength prevents a zombie's creation, they can create other more powerful undead. No matter the minion, it can absorb damage for it's master.

Bloodblades might be found lurking in cemetaries, conspicious by the broad grin on their face in such somber areas, they're loners, who find comfort alone in cemetaries.

Adaptation: The Bloodblade may not use blood, it is possible to create a Deathvenom Necromancer, by altering the blood based abilities, in this case, Share the Pain and all future improvments would need to be replaced with other abilities, as would Stability of Blood.

Sample Encounter: The Players might encounter a group of Bloodblades in a tomb of somone with a reputation for bearing magical items, on a graverobbing expedition, however it's also likely to find a lone Bloodblade wandering a battlefield, undead minion in tow, with a smile on his face.
