Arcane Essencemaster[edit]

Ah. So you're immune to my weaker spells. I shall have to combine their energies to make one incredible strong spell!

The Arcane Essencemaster has reached an epiphany about the nature of magic. Having realized that spell levels are merely an affectation of the weak minds of most mortals, they have discovered the art of ignoring spell levels and spell preparation almost entirely.

Effectively, the way that mana-based spellcasting works is that the character now knows "Mana Level _" 0-9. Each one can be prepared in the appropriate level of slot. When the character wants to cast a spell they know, even if they didn't prepare it, they can cast it by using up twice that spell's level of "Mana Level _" spells, with cantrips (level 0) being worth half a level.

With their incredible power and versatility, Arcane Essencemasters can work their way into many roles.

Becoming an Arcane Essencemaster[edit]

Arcane Essencemasters are very versatile spellcasters.

Entry Requirements
Skills: Spellcraft 8 ranks.
Feats: Mana-based Casting.
Spellcasting: 7 levels of arcane spellcasting class(es).

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Arcane Essencemaster.

Channel: The Arcane Essencemaster may spend a full round action to replenish one level of "Mana Level _" spells.

Exchange: The Arcane Essencemaster may, as a full round action, convert any one or two spell(s) they have prepared (If they're preparation-based) or any one or two unused spell slot(s) (If they're a spontaneous caster) into an equal number of levels of other spells/spell slots.

Mana Efficiency: When the Arcane Essencemaster expends "Mana Level _" spells during spellcasting, they may roll a d6 for each spell expended in this way. For every roll of a six, the Arcane Essencemaster gets that spell back.

Magical Endurance: The Arcane Essencemaster may spend "Mana Level _" spells to gain life. They gain hp equal to twice the level of spells expended this way.

Improved Channel: The Arcane Essencemaster may spend a move action to replenish two levels of "Mana Level _" spells.

Vitality Loan: The Arcane Essencemaster may inflict temporary Constitution damage upon themself to gain levels of "Mana Level _" equal to the amount of Constitution damage inflicted. This Constitution can only be regained by resting for a full eight hours.

Improved Mana Efficiency: When the Arcane Essencemaster expends "Mana Level _" spells during spellcasting, they may roll a d6 for each spell expended in this way. For every roll of a four or higher, the Arcane Essencemaster gets that spell back. (overrides Mana Efficiency)

Force Loan: The Arcane Essencemaster may inflict temporary damage to any attribute upon themself to gain levels of "Mana Level _" equal to the amount of attribute damage inflicted. This attribute damage can only be undone by resting for a full eight hours.

Greater Exchange: The Arcane Essencemaster may, as a swift action, convert any one or two spell(s) they have prepared (If they're preparation-based) or any one or two unused spell slot(s) (If they're a spontaneous caster) into an equal number of levels of other spells/spell slots.

Bonus Feature: When the Arcane Essencemaster reaches level 10, they get one bonus feature of the following:

Incredible Mana Efficiency: When the Arcane Essencemaster expends "Mana Level _" spells during spellcasting, they may roll a d6 for each spell expended in this way. For every roll of a three or higher, the Arcane Essencemaster gets that spell back. (overrides Improved Mana Efficiency)

Incredible Channel: The Arcane Essencemaster may spend a swift action to replenish three levels of "Mana Level _" spells.

Protective Mana: The Arcane Essencemaster may spend "Mana Level _" spells to gain life and temporary natural armor class. They gain hp equal to four times the level of spells expended this way, and natural armor class equal to the level of spells expended this way for three rounds.

Essence Thief: The Arcane Essencemaster may attempt a touch attack upon a creature with a soul, planar being, or magical being. A successful hit gives the victim a negative level for one hour and replenishes two levels of "Mana Level _" spells.

Mana Understanding: Whenever the Arcane Essencemaster identifies an arcane spell being cast, they learn that spell.

Playing an Arcane Essencemaster[edit]

Combat: The Arcane Essencemaster is adept at casting spells to fit the number and resistances of their enemies.

Resources: Arcane Essencemasters are very rare, and look down upon other arcane classes. There aren't enough of them to form any organizations

Arcane Essencemasters in the World[edit]

Arcane Essencemasters tend to wander about, looking for new challenges that they can direct their impressive abilities towards.

NPC Reactions: Most people are somewhat intimidated by the sheer enlightenment of Arcane Essencemasters, as well as by their incredible unpredictability.

Arcane Essencemaster Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge(Arcana) can research Arcane Essencemasters to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

21 Arcane Essencemasters can gain the ability to exchange spell slots for life, and vice versa.

Arcane Essencemasters in the Game[edit]

Adaptation: Arcane Essencemasters are merely casters who have reached a state of enlightenment. While rare, they can occur virtually anywhere.
