[edit] Neverwinter Nights and 3.5 Edition
LAI was originally, and still is, a group making Modules on the Aurora Toolset for Neverwinter Nights. It evolved from a once-off game set on the continent of Promence on a mission to defeat a shapeshifter, and something else involving a necromancer riding a Gelatinous Cube into battle and magical Top-hats that protected us from... Yeah, our DM liked silly games. The game expanded into a Campaign in the LAI world, then into 4th Edition and onto here.
[edit] 4th Edition
When 4th edition came out, LAI was still holding onto the good old 3.5 edition, with some houserules. After the conversion began, the original DM rejected LAI campaigns and instead created a seperate mini-Campaign based only in Promence, but the rest of the world was filled in. The Seven was supposedly the original group of Adventurers in that original game, if it was ever finished. The world of 4th edition conformed to a more complex 3.5 reminiscent game style, returning old classes and focusing their talents. Psionics was also reintroduced, though anyone with serious attempts to import Psionics into their game should wait for the 4th Edition Psionics (as of 2009) to come out, to avoid any confusion.
