[edit] A Shattered Throne
[edit] The World of Arnoril
[edit] History
Arnoril was originally created by the Gods. The original pantheon (as in the Dungeons and Dragons gods mentioned in the handbooks) created the races, while the Greek/Roman gods came later, sometime during the late first age, along with the Norse gods. The Egyptian gods of the west came shortly after the Orcs' banishment from Baenre
Evil came to the world in the form of Valor, the dark Balor from Hell. It is the creature that influenced all evil men to do their unholy acts.
The history of the central island, which is what people will deal with in this campaign setting, links directly into it. When it was first risen from the sea it was the home of the first Elves and Halflings. During this "high period" during the first age there was hardly any violence. This was also the time the High Elves and Drow split as a unit. The immortal Grey Elves then broke contact with all of its sister ethnicities. At the dawn of the 2nd Age King Ramfel of Room led his army into Baenre where he banished all of the Orcs. While some went west, to Balor, most went into the sea towards the Island Three. Landing there, a long war between Orcs and Elves ensued. It was also around this time the western coast was cleared of its forests.
At the dawn of the 10th age men came, bringing Dwarves and Gnomes with them. The new races helped the losing Elves unite against the Orclan Orcs. They destroyed this enemy kingdom and gave their land to the enslaved Halflings. The age following were good years. Until he came.
He was the great lord Farman, king of Terra Caedis. In the 11th Age Farman was born, becoming the heir to the throne of The Bright Lands. He immediately changed that kingdom's name to Terra Caedis and pushed north. He fought wars for years against men and elves until, one day, he was defeated. Outside the gates of Caedia Farman is struck down by King Devin I. He dies, and the dead king's sword is taken by Devin and declared the royal sword.
So now we are at the beginning of our story. Farman returns in the middle of the 11th Age, and by 734/11 he builds his army back to strength. In 736, our year, the war stalls. He has taken all of the elven, halfling, and human lands, and now few exist to stem the tide...
[edit] Background
This campaign is based around these events. The world is in turmoil, and evil is winning. There are several quest lines the DM can take, but this is merely a world to base it in. Because of its storyline based nature, however, one may feel better about using the world map, and not the storyline. Anyway, some suggested plot lines will be listed in the "Quests" section, and then the quests for MY plot line will be put there.
[edit] Kingdoms of Pulchritude
The world this is placed in is called Arnoril, however, the island is called Pulchritude (Bellissimo Isola in Elven).
The Kingdoms of this Island are:
Asgarnia:
Asgarnia is one of the last three whole remaining kingdoms of good men. Residing to the north, it is in the mountains. Its mountains are small and low, nearly hills, and provide lush farmland.
Culture:
Race: Mainly Human, some Elven refugees and Dwarf immigrants. Language: Common. Religion: Mainly two gods: Pelor and Heironous. The main warrior class here is the Paladin, so naturally Heironous is worshiped often. Alignment: LG
Language:
Common, Dwarven, Elven.
Currency:
Wyrms (1pp), Dragons (5gp), Steeds (1gp), Bucks (5sp), Suns (1sp), Moons (5cp), Bolts (1cp.)
History:
Once a part of Pulchritude, a civil war shortly after Farman's first attack split the country into two parts. One kept monarchy, the other kept democracy. Asgarnia kept the standard monarchic views, and so stayed that way.
Geography:
I can't answer that right now, for I haven't drawn the map yet. Sorry :C.
