(Micha's) Lightning Blink
Evocation [Electricity, Teleportation]
Level: Sor/Wiz 9
Components: V, S, M
Casting time: 1 standard action
Range: Self (See text)
Effect: 1 static charge/5 levels
Duration: 1 round + 1 round/2 levels
Saving Throw: None, Fortitude (See text)
Spell Resistance: Yes

Upon rubbing the lint vigorously against the sock, a static charge builds and spreads throughout the caster, imbuing her with electric energy. During this process and for the remainder of the spell's duration, the caster experiences several faint tingling shocks on their skin. While charges are active on the caster, her skin glows with an undulating blue light similar to water reflecting on stone; this effect creates as much light as a torch for each charge active, causing it to grow fainter as the charges are spent.

The caster must spend 1 standard action to cast the spell. Upon finishing the spell, the caster is imbued with arcane electricity in the form of 1 static charge/5 caster levels. The charges remain with the caster for 1 round + 1 round/2 caster levels or until expended. Expending one charge counts as a free action; a second charge expended in the same round uses a move action (The build up of the charges prevents the caster from expending any charges on the round the spell was cast). When a charge is released, the caster instantly teleports to another location; range: close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 caster levels). Upon arriving at the target location, the caster releases a nova of electricity with a radius of 20, 30, or 40 ft. for 1d8 electricity damage/2 caster levels, 1d6 electricity damage/2 caster levels, or 1d4 electricity damage/2 caster levels respectively. If the charge is released with a 20 ft. radius, all creatures damaged by the spell must succeed on a Fortitude save or be stunned for 1 round. Regardless of the radius, the nova arcs sporadically, reaching around and over small obstacles (such as a column or low wall).

Additionally, if the caster is struck by a melee attack while one or more static charges are active on the caster, the charges are conducted into the attacker, dealing 1d10 electricity damage/2 caster levels to the attacker per charge (Charges are considered active on the round the caster finishes casting the spell). Damage dealt in this way uses the attacker's weapon's spell resistance, if any. The attacker must also succeed on a Fortitude save for each charge released or be stunned for 1 round/failed save. If the attacker succeeds on all of the saves, their weapon becomes imbued with electricity, granting the effects of Shocking Burst for a time equal to the remaining duration of the charges; the attacker still receives the damage and cannot benefit from Shocking Burst on the attack that activated the charges nor if using a natural weapon for the attack. The caster cannot choose whether or not the charges are expended in this way.

Material Component: A pinch of pocket lint and a small wool sock.
